Starfleet Agility in Elk Grove

Getting There   |   Site Description

Getting There

(View interactive map) NOTE: All interactive maps I've found show Starfleet as north of Kammerer Rd, when in fact it's south. Written directions (below) are correct.
Directions

10925 Bruceville Road, (916) 691-4086
Going SOUTH on 99: Take the Elk Grove Blvd. exit and go west.
Turn left on Bruceville Road * * (there's a light) and go 3.3 miles south to the dirt driveway on the left. There's a big Starfleet Agility sign.
Alternative going south on 99, take Grant Line Rd exit; turn left on the frontage road, turn right on the first road on the right (Kammerer). At stop sign (Bruceville) turn left and go about .3 miles.
Going NORTH on 99, get off at Grant Line Rd; stay to the right and follow around to a stop sign. Turn right, over the freeway. At dead end, turn left on frontage road. Go to stop sign, go staight to first road on right and turn right (Kammerer). At stop sign (Bruceville), turn left and go about .3 miles.
From Interstate 5 going SOUTH: Take the Elk Grove Blvd exit and go east about 4 miles. Turn right on Bruceville Rd. and follow from * * above.
From Interstate 5 going NORTH, take the Hood/Franklin Rd. exit & turn right; * * * go to Franklin Blvd (T-intersection) & turn left; a short block later turn right on Bilby Rd; at next Stop sign, turn right on Bruceville Rd., which puts you about 1.2 miles from Starfleet Agility.

Distance

Driving time from, 3 PM Sun
2 hrs and 20 minutes, but actual speed depends on traffic
Slow bits
On a Sunday afternoon heading back to the Bay Area, the transition from 580 east to 680 south is typically backed up for a mile.

Site Description
Overview
This is the only agility site actually owned & lived in by agility people. This is not a public site; Bruce & Marj Vincent do agility here because they love it and are generous people (well, they do charge a fee to rent the place). They have acres of land that they are slowly developing for dog events. It's a lovely site out in the country with a covered arena that has room for 1 ring, one completed outdoor grassy fenced ring, and enough covered crating space for one to two rings' worth of competitors.
Parking
Parking in a small lot right next to the covered arena and some behind the arena; a bit soggy when raining.
Restrooms
They bring in port-a-potties.
Dog romping
When it's raining, the covered ring is nice and dry, but the surrounding fields are sometimes too wet for running your dogs— although they've done a lot of work in the last 2 years, installing drainage and pumps to keep the fields clear. In any case, there's plenty of room to walk your dogs. When it's dry, there is lots of space including a couple of moderately sized fenced fields in which you can turn your dogs loose.
Shade/Shelter
In the covered arena, crating areas are sheltered from sun & rain.
Camping
They let you park your RV onsite, but there aren't currently hookups (I don't think). Might be able to set up a tent but I haven't seen anyone do it.
Food
There are lots of fast food & grocery joints about 4 miles away down a 55 MPH country road (Bruceville Rd.). They've been bringing in a BBQ guy to cook breakfasts & lunches. Or bring your own.
Notes
Bruce & Marj are lucky to have this place and are generous to share it with us. This is their home; show tons of respect for the property, clean up after your dogs, appreciate the facilities that they do have, & remember that this isn't a public site.
