About the California Cup

The Bay Team's Annual California Cup consists of trophies to the best small (8", 12", 16") and best large (20", 24") dog at each level (novice, open, elite) and a trophy to the best overall dog. Veterans and Junior Handler dogs are eligible based on their Standard Division jump height (for example, 20" Veterans jumping 16" are considered large dogs).

The best dog is the dog with the fewest faults accumulated over all four of the Regular classes on both days. In the case of a tie, the dog with the fastest yards-per-second averaged over the classes will be judged best. Dogs that move up on Sunday are eligible at the level in which they competed on Saturday.

NOTE: Bay Team members indicated by * and green coloring.

July 2004 California Cup (7th Annual)

This year's July NADAC was at yet a different site, the Twin Creeks Sports complex in Sunnyvale. The weather was hot and muggy, and the site has no running water. We repeated last year's strategy of compiling results over 4 regular runs and two jumpers runs (the first 5 years included the Regular classes only). Only two out of the 111 eligible dogs managing zero faults over the 6 runs! In previous years, we automatically eliminated from the running any dog who earned an "E" (elimination) in any round, but this year in one level we had to include one such dog to use our 3rd place ribbon.

We assigned 200 faults and 200 seconds to any E run, which skewed the yards per second (YPS) for the one placing dog with E runs.

Ties were broken, as usual, by a yards-per-second calculation over all six runs (in previous years, it was over only the Regular runs). The overall winner received a trophy. Ribbons were awarded for the first three in each of the six groups.

The quality of competition at all levels was superb. Congratulations to all of our winners and competitors.

(The detailed calculations are also posted. BLUE lines are the ribbon winners. YELLOW lines are simply dogs who had enough faults early enough that I stopped entering times and faults for. 200 faults/200 seconds indicates an E run.)

NOTE: This page hasn't been completely converted from old HTML to new wiki format.
We ran our 2nd NADAC of the year in July this time, at a new site, Mare Island in Vallejo. For the sixth annual California Cup, the weather was hot (and windy on Saturday) and so was the competition.

Because of our class format, this year the results were compiled over 4 regular runs on Saturday and two jumpers runs on Sunday. This apparently made it much more difficult to end up with zero faults for those 6 runs, but a few dogs managed it.

Ties were broken, as usual, by a yards-per-second calculation. The overall winner received a trophy. Ribbons were awarded for the first three in each of the six groups. Several mixed breeds were among the winners. Congratulations!

Note the photo of the gorgeous trophy we've given out the last couple of years; thanks for the photo, Dave Grubel.
