Agility

Linking among wiki articles, images, and so on is really easy, but there are also some nifty tricks and tips that you might find useful.

Contents

Basic linking

To create a link to another article, type the article's name and enclose it in double square brackets, like this:

Welcome to The Bay Team's wiki.

When you save the page, it looks like this:

Welcome to The Bay Team's wiki.

Changing the displayed link text ("piping")

Sometimes you don't want the exact article title to appear in the text. In that case, do the same as in "Basic linking", except add a vertical bar (|) and the text that you want to display, like this:

The next Bay Team meeting is Tuesday.

When you save the page, it looks like this:

The next Bay Team meeting is Tuesday.

This is called piping.

Linking to Wikipedia articles

Wikipedia has tons of existing articles that might already be useful to link to, so we don't have to write them, such as dog agility, Border Collie, and so on. Link to any Wikipedia article from here in BTWiki by prefacing the link with "wp:", like this:

My dog is a wp:Belgian Shepherd.

After saving:

My dog is a wp:Belgian Shepherd.

To avoid displaying the "wp:" all the time, you can pipe this, too, like this:

My dog is a Belgian Shepherd.

After saving:

My dog is a Belgian Shepherd.

Displaying an image

You can display a thumbnail of an image by linking to its full name with "|thumb" and "|your caption" appended; for example:

Displays as shown on the right.

Linking to an image

Sometimes you want to refer to an image without displaying it. To do so, precede the name with a colon:

Please review the image :Image:WendyBruceJanuary2007 IMG 0800elf.jpg.

When you save the page, it looks like this:

Please review the image Image:WendyBruceJanuary2007 IMG 0800elf.jpg.

And you can pipe these links, too:

Please review this image.

When you save the page, it looks like this:

Please review this image.
