For those who ask, "can I get my club email in digest format?"

Contents

[edit] How many email messages should I expect every day?

The volume of emails to ALL is generally low; historically, it averages between 1 and 5 emails a day. Some discussions skew the daily count; for example, the proposed state spay/neuter bill generated a lot of email in a short time, as does any discussion of picking a new site for trials.

[edit] Are there alternatives to digest format?

Consider using your email program to filter your Bay Team emails into a separate folder. Most email packages allow you to segregate based on the text "[Bay Team]" in the Subject line, or other criteria. Then you can check the folder at your leisure.

[edit] Can I set the digest option for every bayteam list?

No. (As of April 10, 2007) We have turned on the option to allow members of ALL (at bayteam dot org) to change their subscriptions to daily-digest mode. This does not apply to any other bayteam list.

[edit] How do I set my digest option?

Huh, ALL doesn't seem to be sending out automated emails every month any more. I guess you'll just have to send email to webmaster or info (at bayteam dot org).

If you have saved the monthly automated password reminder email that you get from the ALL administrative software, it has a link and a password that you can use to set your options.

  1. Read the rules for digest subscribers.
  2. Go to the URL that was given in the email with your monthly password reminder.
If you don't have that, go here.
  3. Log in.
(Use the email address with which you are subscribed to the list; this is usually your regular real-life email address.)
This displays the mailing list membership configuration page.
  4. Scroll down to Set Digest Mode and click the On button.
  5. Scroll down and click Submit My Changes.

Digests will come daily.

[edit] How are attachments handled with daily digests?

As soon as an email with an attachment is sent to the list, your daily digest will come immediately instead of at the end of the day (midnight). However, digest subscribers get a link to the attachment rather than the attachment itself.

[edit] Rules for digest subscribers

  • If you reply to a message, you MUST:
    • Set the "TO:" field to the address you really want to reply to; otherwise, it goes to the whole list again.
    • Set the "SUBJECT:" field to something other than the default "All Digest, Vol 2, Issue 5"
    • NOT include the entire text of the digest (which often happens by default when you REPLY).

NOTE: We will be picky about these rules--repeat violators will go back to regular, nondigest subscription. (oooh, doesn't that sound nasty!)
