General briefing for a CPE trial

From BayTeam

Jump to: navigation, search

CPE requires that clubs hold a general briefing first thing in the morning. Here are some topics that have been covered in the past at general briefings for CPE trials hosted by The Bay Team. Pick and choose your own and please add your own suggestions and ideas here for future use. You're also welcome to create an article for your specific trial's general briefing at the bottom.

NOTE: People stop listening after about 10 minutes, so the entire briefing from trial committee must be less than that! And allow judges a minute or two more. So be brief, speak quickly but clearly.

Contents

[edit] General

  • "Welcome everyone and thanks for coming! The Bay Team loves having you here! Let's have a FUN WEEKEND!" (Yay!)
  • Ask who is at their first trial ever; ask who's at their 1st CPE ever. Cheers & excitement on both counts.
  • Introduce Trial Committee key members for people who'll have Qs or need help (make 'em come to the middle/front, not just raise their hands quickly): secretaries, Crew Chiefs, Awards Czar at least.
  • Goal is HAVE FUN
  • Everyone please help!
  • Pick up after your dogs. WATCH your dogs when they're out of their crates/pens; I see dogs poop while owners are chatting with someone and they don't notice.
  • Be aware of where your dog is in relation to other dogs at all times. Not all dogs are super friendly and they shouldn't have to put up with random dogs jumping into their faces.
  • Ask for Bay Team members show of hands. Mention that all Bay Teamers can/shd help with anything (TP or whatever)--come find experienced folks if you need to.

[edit] Workers

  • Worker water in coolers at ringsides
  • Raffle ticket info

[edit] Rule reminders

  • For anyone who might be timing or scribing: all dogs must get a time written down unless the judge explicitly says no.
  • Dogs run without collars.
  • No toys or food within 10 feet of the ring.
  • Remember, NT = no placement, no Q (even, e.g., if you have enough pts in snooker or gmblrs)
  • CPe requires that we see your ID card; if you didn't send a copy of *permanent* card w/entry, you must check in. If we don't see your perm card then or now, you *must* measure in, or CPE will not count your Qs!
  • Explain about special marking on contacts for CPE (either tape or paint or maybe both--TBD).

[edit] Rule changes

[edit] 2004

  • Contact zones on teeter & dogwalk are now 42" and are marked on the *sides* of the obstacles with colored tape. (Aframe has always been 42".)
  • "Other" faults" are now limited to 1 in classes that allow them (used to be 2).

[edit] Facilities

  • Food location for breakfast & lunch
  • Where lunches will be, how workers get them (how *will* they get them--stickers?), how nonworkers get them (if they can?)
  • Restroom location.
  • Let us know if TP is low (who is TP czar?)
  • Water for dogs location (drinking & wetting down)

[edit] Awards

(Current Awards Czar usually)

  • Self-serve ribbons/location
  • Completing a full-level title (brief explanation) earns special ribbon--fill out form
  • Move-ups OK sat to sun...location of forms/where to put/by when (Karey?)
  • When/how we'll post info/award ribbons for 100% Qs...?
  • Brief note about level titles and 100%-Q award
  • For newbies--brief note about posting results, self-serve ribbons, asking whenever they have questions or problems
  • High in Trial (HIT); dog must be entered in std to determine level. Based on Q's with placements as tiebreakers. Nice plaque & photo at the end of Sunday.

[edit] Judges

  • Introduce & let them say something if they want

[edit] Logistics

  • Conflicts--don't stress--here's what you do (fill in basic info); identify which ring takes precedence (probably Dorris' ring on Sat & Candy's on Sun)
  • Tight schedule--help as workers; get on line asap.
  • Brief note on electronic timing. (Presumably in the 2 big rings, not jumpers ring? Will have to see what course layouts look like I guess.)
  • Saturday: Me--announce when/how I want to get together with future equipment czars to discuss equipment.
  • Sunday: Per arlene--hand out level title ribbons

[edit] Specific trial notes

(Saving these here as thought-provokers for trial chairs):

  • We'd like to allow Candy to actually judge some of her jumpers rounds, so if we can run an efficient ring for candy maybe she can do the last round (?); Jumpers ring will be more casual and we might have large breaks between levels to allow other rings to catch up if needed--LISTEN FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS. But don't stress--everyone will get a chance to run.
  • Linda Eickholdt (she has way too many consonants in her name :-) ) is going to send me a trophy to award to Cynthia Roberts and Bikky--a high team award from 2004 in Specialist.
  • Especially introduce Jack Childress for traveling so far & being so cooperative; also thank candy & dorris for patience--first we had a site, then we didn't, then we did again; then we had a hotel for them, then that changed; then we got way more entries and had to change the judging schedule... whew!
  • Staying off of the 2nd half of the field on Sunday, if that's the arrangement that we manage to make.
  • See you at the Nationals! (Only 2 Qs, any level any class)
