Help:Cool Canine instructions

These are instructions for the Cool Canine staff on how to update the Bay Team Cool Canines info. Looking for info on how to submit yourself or another dog for a future Cool Canine article? See Cool Canine submissions.

Job description

• About once every 2 months (or monthly would be better if you can manage it), write up about a 2-paragraph story on some Bay Team dog(s) and their handler. To do this, you just--

• Ask people that you're interested in knowing more about to be a Cool Canine, or draw names randomly from the roster, and ask them to be a Cool Canine.
• Ask them questions like "How did you get started in agility? What was your favorite experience in agility?"
• Make sure they send you a photo of dog plus handler, or get one from somewhere, or take it yourself, or ask webmeister to help.
• Edit as needed, confirm with Webmaster it's OK, and post (see following instructions)--or webmaster can help if needed.

Submission standards

• Some earlier Cool Canine photos had only the dog--but goal is to introduce club members, too, so photo must have person and dog. Posed photos are OK--we seem to be getting more of those--but it sure is fun to have agility photos for our agility club.
• If someone else has given you text, let them know up front that Cool Canines has a style guide and limitations on text length and that we'll be editing it.
• Edit the text for clarity and brevity. Webmeister can give opinions and/or do final copy edit.
• Put text into third person ("he"/"she" vs "I").
• Goal: About 275 words. If the profile is of 2 people simultaneously, maybe 500 words. (If you use Microsoft Word, if you look under File:Properties:Statistics, it'll show you the word count of any text.) (Limit is because we want people to be able to pop in and read it quickly, not see that it's long and go away again.)

Posting a new Cool Canine

1. Log in.
2. Upload the photo (file size must be less than about 1 MB); to do so:
   1. Click Upload file in the Toolbox on the left.
   2. Follow instructions there.
3. Go to Bay Team Cool Canines.
4. Click edit at the top of the page.
5. Add new cool canine (above the previous one) following the example of the previous ones; name the new section using the person's and dog's name (e.g., "Fred and Schmoo" or "Elizabeth and her dogs").
6. Click Show preview at the bottom of the page to be sure it looks OK--if not, scroll down and continue editing--then click Save page.
7. Go to Main Page.
8. Next to the Cool Canine header, click edit.
9. You'll see text like the following... edit ONLY the text shown in bold:

1. • Replace KatrinaMaddie.JPG with the name of your uploaded photo
   • Replace the tidbit with an appropriate line
   • Replace Katrina and Maddie with the title of the new section you created (e.g., "Fred and Schmoo" or "Elizabeth and her dogs").
   • Replace Feb 21,'07 with the current date.
2. Click Save page
