You can upload a photo, image, or picture to our wiki site for appropriate use on the site. (This is not a general photo-sharing site.)

Do I need to edit or reduce the file before uploading?

It would be best if the photo is cropped nicely (for example, so there isn't a small dog in a huge sea of grass), but you don't have to; someone else might do it for you later after it's uploaded.

A smaller photo storage size is helpful to start with--generally don't upload photos that are multiple megabytes (MGs) in size--but please do upload a wide or tall photo because it gives viewers the option of zooming in from a thumbnail to see the larger size. (Ignore the message that "recommends" a file size of less than 185 KB.)

To upload a file

  1. Log in.
  2. Click Upload file in the left-side toolbox.
  3. In the Upload file page, use the Browse button to browse to your image on your system.
  4. Type a destination filename:
    PLEASE pay attention to the instructions on choosing a destination filename! (We don't want photos named img99932.jpg ending up on the system.)
  5. Type a brief summary description including who/what the photo is of, when it was taken, who took the photo.
  6. Click the Upload file button.
  7. If it "warns" you about the photo being large, that's OK; up to about 1 MB is fine.
  8. When it's done uploading, it displays the photo on its own photo description page. Note the page title (something like Image:SusanYee 2006.jpg). This is the name you'll use for including the photo on various pages.

Displaying an image

Images can be included in various ways, depending on how a page is set up.

Tip: If there are already photos on the page that you want to add to, click the edit tab at the top of the page and look at how other photos are included.

Displaying in the Members and Dogs pages

See Editing the members page.

Displaying in a gallery page

Some pages surround lists of photos and captions with <gallery> tags, like this:

<gallery>
Image:FredSmith.jpg|Fred at the Sept. trial
Image:SusanYee 2006.jpg|Susan in 2006
</gallery>

For more information, see Help:Creating image galleries.

Displaying in most other pages

To include a single uploaded image by itself in a page, use a link in the form
For example:

Options for displaying

To display a photo full-size with no caption (although that's not generally recommended), just use:

The default image width for photo displayed with the "thumb" option is 150px, which isn't usually large enough to display small details. To specify a wider width, add the width as follows:

The default position for a "thumb" is on the right side of the page; you can change that as follows:
