This article gives brief explanations of the various elements that you see on your computer screen while using BTWiki.

Contents

[edit] Sample BTWiki page with links of interest

Image:Wiki page all but navigation.jpg

[edit] Across the very top right

Efinch (username)
That's your username if you're logged in. It's a link to your user page, an article where you can put information about yourself that you might want other users to know. Do not put your email address on that page; if other users want to get in touch with you, they can go to your user page and click the E-mail this user link on the left side, if you have configured your email address correctly.
my talk
Links to the talk page for your user page. If someone edits that page, then the next time you view a BTWiki article, you get a message that says that you have a message and gives you a link to click to read it. You can leave other users messages on their user talk pages, too.
my preferences
Your BTWiki preferences settings.
my watchlist
A list of pages that you have said that you want to keep an eye on, either by clicking the watch tab at the top of the article or by turning on watch this page when you edit an article. Click this link to see the most recent changes made to articles in your watchlist.
my contributions
A list of your most recent edits to BTWiki. If there's a (top) notation, that means that no one has made an edit since your last edit. Otherwise, the page has changed since then.
log in/create account (or) log out
Depends on whether you're logged in. Should be obvious...

[edit] Editing tabs across the top center

You need to know that every article in the wiki has both an article page, which is what people see when they go to that page, and a discussion or talk page, where people can discuss the content of the article.

article (or) help page (or) user page
Displays the article.
discussion
Displays that article's talk page.

The following links apply either to the article, if you're viewing the article, or to the talk page, if you're viewing the talk page. You might not see all of these links, depending on your user type.

edit
Allows you to edit the content of the article or talk page.
history
View the history of edits to this article or talk page.
protect
For admins only. Temporarily (or sometimes permanently) protects an article and its talk page from being edited by nonadmins. Often used to prevent vandalism.
delete
For admins only. Removes an article and its talk page. See Help:Renaming and deleting articles.
move
For admins only. Renames an article and its talk page and creates a redirect from the old name to the new one. See Help:Renaming and deleting articles.
watch
Click to add this article or talk page to your watchlist.

[edit] Within the article

Some things to note within the article itself:

[edit] to the right of a subheading
Allows you to edit just that section rather than the whole article or talk page.
Category.Wiki terminology
Takes you to a listing of other articles in the same conceptual category as this article. From any category listing, you can move up and down in a category hierarchy, for example, to find more specific articles on a general topic. In this example, the category is "Wiki terminology", so you'll go to a list of other articles that define wiki-related terminology. From there, you can move up a level in the category hierarchy to simply "Terminology", which lists other subcategories of terminology or other general articles about terminology.
