Requirements for an agility trial site
From BayTeam
(Notes from Karey email March 1, 2007. )
Most of you already know what makes a good trial site - just look at the trial sites you go to now that you like the best. My fave site is Madera with Dixon and Prunedale close seconds. So here's Karey's best guess at what to look for.
If you have suggestions and can provide some helpful info, please DO add the site to our [[possible agility sites] page.
Note: Most sites don't have all of these features. It's a wish list, in order of importance (most important first).
- Minimum two soccer fields in size (1200 square feet), athletic grade surface (flat, smooth, drains). Preferably side-by-side fields (arranged in square or diamond), not end-to-end.
- Minimum 200 parking spaces, none more than 300 feet from furthest ring.
- Available on our weekends (and reservable a year in advance).
- Affordable (Best guess: no more than the $1600/day we paid for Twin Creeks in 2006).
- Located within 100 miles of the Golden Gate Bridge (how's that for a definition of our turf?) and doesn't typically get to triple digit temperatures in july and september.
- Not right next to residential property where people won't like having activity and barking dogs behind them at 6:00 on weekend mornings.
- Bathrooms, water, electricity within 100 feet of rings.
- Permission to set up on Friday afternoons before our events.
- Permission/ability to drive our equipment trailers on to the fields.
- RVs allowed on-site within 300 feet of furthest ring (preferably with hookups, showers would be nice).
- Facility provides food or allows us to bring in caterer.
- Fenced in (dogs can't run away during the day, scoundrels can't get in at night).
- Some (not necessarily a lot) open space adjacent, to exercise dogs in.
- Allows commercial vendors.
- Lights.
